'Southend' - Images by Josef Koudelka and Ron McCormick
Displaying in the Thorpe Smith Rooms throughout 2011 will be a selection of the award winning, Czech photographer Josef Koudelka’s study of Southend.
Taken in 1972 these are a wonderful insight of the town’s past.

Beecroft Gallery
Many hidden gems from the town’s costume collection
will be on display; highlights include stunning eighteenth century
gentlemen’s waistcoats and floral bathing suits from our extensive
collection - works of art in the form of fashion. |

7th April to 16th June 2012 In collaboration with the town’s leading contemporary photographic gallery, Focal Point, the Beecroft presents an exhibition which celebrates the vast array of musical success and talent that has arisen from this small corner of Essex. The exhibition will bring together a wide range of media from contemporary artworks to archive material, including photographs, album sleeves, posters and paintings.

7th July to 29th September 2012 54th Essex Open Exhibition
The handing in of work is 2 – 16 June. Selection is by prominent people in the art world and there are generous sponsored awards for various categories. A maximum of three works per artist is allowed. Fees are; £6 one entry, £11 two entries and £14 three entries.

Visitors
may well be surprised that in some instances little has changed and members
of the Essex based photography group 20:20 provide through their photographs
an excellent and vivid comparison of how the scenes look today. |
